CIL23KIT # 2
by Rob Brown a.k.a. "The Speed Merchant"
Whats NEW : Inclusion of Texas Zmodem, Texas Zmodem Terminal, and
TASY. TASY is ONLY for error correcting (MNP) modems.
Many of the protocol bats have been slightly, and mostly
cosmetically, rewriten.
This is a kit that allows you to quickly add 23 externally driven protocols,
several Shells, interface for editors, file managers, TSR and run-time file
taggers to Cedar Island Link. CIL is a DOS, DV, or Windows communications
program with AWESOME mouse support. Even run CIL in a small (Virtualized)
window in DesqView or Windows 3.1, and the RODENT still works !!! CIL20KIT
allows Color or Mono. NOTE : the COLOR version requires ANSI services, as
in ANSI.sys, the MONO version does not.
This KIT, as well as some of the protocols and programs use the
environment extensively ! You should have around 200 bytes of
environment space free. The SHELL statement in config.sys is used
to set the environment. I recommend /E:1024, although a lot less
is ok. The DOS default is not enough !
Cedar Island Link - Cedar Island Software by Mike Caughran
Current version of Cedar Island Link : CILNK252.ZIP.
If you haven't seen Cedar Island Link you are missing one of the best
treats in on-line communications.
A Mouse is not required for CIL, it is NICE !
(See KITFILES.LST for a quick listing of files included in this kit.)
══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
How to set up : If you have all desired files this could take 4 or
5 minutes !
Copy either KITCOLOR.BAT or KITMONO.BAT to the EXTUPx.BAT or
EXTDOWNx.BAT you desire to use for CILINK. DO NOT use EXTUP4.BAT
or EXTDOWN4.BAT for this KIT !!! The "4" bats do not shell to EMS,
XMS, or DISK, so there will not be enough memory to use the KIT.
Either 1, 2, or 3 is OK. You only need to use ONE of the availble
EXTERNALx.bat Options for the KIT. The BATs that are called by KIT
allow user selected upload or dowload !!!
Copy to another name, I use EXTDOWN2.BAT and 2.BAT. If I shell
using the F10 - U - DOS Shell option in CIL, it is easier to
type 2 than to type EXTDOWN2 to activate the kit.
!!!! NOTICE !!!!
Many of the protocol bats contain tips for special condition
setups !
1. Copy all files in KIT to the CILINK directory.
2. Copy KITCOLOR.BAT or KITMONO.BAT to the EXTERNALx.bat you
desire and also an easy to type name like 2.bat. Remember
if you use 2 names and change one, copy that one to the
other name !
3. Edit SETS.BAT, self explanantory. Use CIEDIT or any editor
that saves in ACSII format.
4. For simple setup, put all desired drivers and support files
in the CILINK directory. You can use a directory on the PATH,
however you may experience problems if you are not familiar
with setting protocols to run from the non-default directory.
5. For the protocols listed below that have a setup routine as
SZCONFIG.EXE or HSCONFIG.EXE, run them before using. All of
those with a setup are EZ ! These are :
MPT - MPTSET.EXE HS/Link - HSCONFIG.EXE
SZ - SZCONFIG.EXE Bi-modem has different ones.
(The other protocols need no setup !)
Note : You can edit SETS.BAT and even the name(s).bat you
used while in the KIT !
Note : If you have a High Speed Modem , no fancy UART, a
SLOW computer AND if you get errors using TMODEM,
ZMAX, or Zmodem ITC, then and only then, edit the
TBOTH.BAT, ZMAXBOTH.BAT, ZITCBOTH.BAT. What to do
is easy and is at the top of the bat file. AGAIN
only if ERRORS occur !!! If you have a real fast
setup, you can tweak ZMAX by altering the -S
parameter in the ZMAXBOTH.BAT file, description
of cahnge is in the file.
Note : Texas Zmodem, as well as others, is an excellent replacement
for DSZ. TXZM has no download path restrictions in the
shareware version and is VERY fast. Display is graphical.
The Texas Zmodem Terminal is very easy to use, F1 for help
shows you all you need to know. TXZM Term allows auto-z and
you can send and receive both !
Note : Non-REGISTERED DSZ/GSZ do not allow DOWNLOAD paths for any
supported protocols except the Xmodem-k and Xmodem flavours.
Edit DSZBOTH.BAT and GSZBOTH.BAT to allow DOWNLOADS to end
up where you want. This is near the end of file ! REGISTERED
DSZ/GSZ users do not do this !
............. (represents lines before driver name)
............. (represents lines before driver name)
C: ; Drive you want
CD\DOWNLOAD ; Directory you want Downloads to end up in.
%CIL%\DSZ p %P speed %LR% ha both rz -rrm %ZDL%
C: ; Drive where CILINK is
CD\CILINK ; Directory where CILINK is.
:END
EXIT
DSZBOTH.BAT, GSZBOTH.BAT, ZYMOBOTH.BAT, GYMOBOTH.BAT, ZYMGBOTH.BAT,
GYMGBOTH.BAT, ZXKGBOTH.BAT, and GXKGBOTH.BAT may all be altered
this way....
You can also use this with DSZTERM.BAT (DSZTRMMO.BAT is Mono verson)
and GSZTERM.BAT (GSZTRMMO.BAT is mono version) to allow downloads
where you want. If you have REGISTERED DSZ or GSZ, edit the TERM bats
mentioned above and add %ZDL% on end on command line. I could not
include these or you because the terminal aborts if called with
unsupported parameters. You might also add 8g as in -rrm8g to the
-rrm already on the command line to support ANSI graphics (only
REGISTERED DSZ/GSZ).
I, NOW, use the TXZM Terminal as a quick way to dial out for mail
and files. Term requires only 110K and you can run the entire kit
from DOS if you want, do not need to be in CIL to use !
══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
Quick list of recommended programs, many others can be used ! Many
of them are available in other than the ZIP format. Descriptions
follow this quick list.
TXZM220.ZIP or newer. Verified as latest version 10-24-92.
TASYxxxx.zip - Loads of them out there, not sure of most recent...
Many are just named TASY.ZIP........ Error Correcting
modems ONLY !
HSL113C4.ZIP or newer. HS/Link Protocol.
DSZxxxx.zip GSZxxxx.zip of 1990 or newer (05-03-92 versions are out)
SZMOD200.ZIP and SZSUP200.ZIP verified as latest version 10-18-92.

TAGGER37.ZIP or newer. Verified as latest version on 10-18-92.
HSLSHELL.ZIP 1.0 or newer.
There are many other protocols, shells, and taggers that could be easily
added to this kit.
══════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════
Protocols supported directly by this KIT :
TSZM - by Mike Dumdei, DSZ compatible Zmodem with a graphical
display and written in assembler. VERY FAST !
TASY - EXTREMELY FAST protocol for Error Correcting modems.
DSZ/GSZ - by Omen Technology. Zmodem, Ymodem-g, True Ymodem,
Xmodem-1K-g (Qmodem), Xmodem-1K, Xmodem CRC, Xmodem
OVER TRUSTER (DSZ only), and Omen Terminal mode.
Actually slower than most of the others supported
by this kit. No setup required.
HS/Link - by Sam Smith. High Speed Bi-Directional protocol with
CHAT function. If sending and receiving as the same
time this is the fastest. Also very fast in a single
direction. Look for HS113C5.zip or later. Run
HSCONFIG.exe to setup, EZ !.
Bi-Modem - Includes calling BAT for those that already use
Bi-Modem. Pretty fast at 2400 to 9600 Baud. Look
for BIMOD124.zip or later.
Tmodem - Tmodem by International TeleCommunications. Faster
than DSZ/GSZ with better error correction. If you
need a protocol for speed on bad lines use this !
Supports Tmodem 7.20 up. TMOD900.zip is last version
as of 10-21-92. No setup required.
Z ITC - Zmodem by International TeleCommunications. Faster
than DSZ/GSZ, supports Turbo mode, compatible with
DSZ/GSZ and SZ. with excellent error correction.
No setup required.
Super Z - Super Zmodem (SZ) by Scott Baker. Faster than DSZ/GSZ,
and allows DOS work and you can CHAT or play games
while transferring files. Compatible with DSZ/GSZ and
many other Zmodem implementations. SZMOD200.zip with
SZSUP200.zip is last known version. Run SZCONFIG.exe
to setup, EZ !
ZMAX - Zmodem implementation by Mike Bryeans. Not compatible
with DSZ/GSZ, however very FAST with good error
correction. Can be used in non-streaming mode for
good speed on noisey lines (setup here is streaming
yet can easily be changed, just add -A to command line).
No setup required. Last known version is ZMAX320.zip.
MPT - Mpt by Matthew Thomas. Exceptional speed and error
correction. Last known version MPT110.zip. Run
MPTSET.exe to setup, EZ !
6 other protocols are easily added using the ?BOTH.BAT files.
i.e. DBOTH.BAT or EBOTH.BAT.
All the protocols that allow Auto-resume, keep aborts, over-write
files, and use @files.lst have those features enabled by this KIT.
-g protocols require an MNP modem. A 16550AFN UART or Intelligent
equivalent UART is desired for High Speed Modems and/or Multi-
Tasking, although not absolutely required.
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Shells directly supported : (2 additional shells are easily added)
HSLSHELL - by Roger Kirchoff. Shell for HS/Link, can tag files,
edit HSLFILES.LST, del list, start HS/Link. HSLSHELL.zip
is last known version. Run HSLSHELL and select (S) settings,
edit as needed then exit to save. Mine is :
C:\CILINK\HSLINK @HSLSHELL.LST -P1
(Don't change the default HSLSHELL.LST, you can
copy this to files.lst or copy files.lst to
hslshell.lst from within the kit.)
TAGFILE - by Tom Hansen. Upload or Download with Zmodem, Ymodem-g,
True Ymodem, HS/Link, Bi-Modem, and one user defined
protocol. Allows upload file tagging editing, DOS
shell, and can even add file descriptions to Zips.
Also includes DIRN.exe which is used as the default
Quick Tagger in this KIT. Last known version is
TAG160.zip. Edit DGS.DEF to use, mine is :
files.lst ; set this as KIT default !

TSR file taggers directly supported ( you can use others.)
TAGIT - by Tim O'Pry of Micro Business Consultants. Last know version
TAGIT11.ZIP (this is my favorite). Allows on-line and off line
file tagging with options to read or write to file. Hot key
is ALT SPACEBAR and uses 18K memory.
TAGIT /S ; loads and turns off beeps
CILINK ; run CIL
TAGIT /U ; Unload
TAGGER - by E. J. Blayer. Online and off line tagging for uploads
and downloads with good Mouse support. ALT Z is default
hot keys, can be user defined. TAGGER37.zip is last
known version. Also allows block and cut, usefull
for online meesaging and other functions.
TAGGER CILINK ; loads TAGGER and CILINK
When you exit CILINK, TAGGER will unload.
FILETAG - by Gasner & Associates. Online and Offline tagging for
uploads and downloads. Default hot keys are ALT Z, can
be user defined. Allows read and write to file with
file edit. LAst know version is FTAG30.zip. Run
FTCONFIG.exe and set data directory to CILINK dir, i.e
C:\CILINK.
FILETAG /L ; loads
CILINK ; run CIL
FILETAG /U ; unloads
Note : A directory listing of any desired path can be performed
while in the KIT. You can also use the TSR file taggers
to Mark meesages during a quick scan and use the file
tagger to recall those you want to read. I use this on
BBS's that do not support (or if I don't use) a QWK
mail door.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Other functions : (many can be altered or easily added.)
? Help - Configure your own help screens.
EDITOR - CIEDIT is used by default, can use any you like.
File Mgr - I use Norton Commander, use any you desire.
Memory - DOS 5.0's MEM /C, can change easily.
Memory Tool - I use QEMM's MFT (Manifest), alter as you need.
Copy - Copy FILES.LST to HSLSHELL.LST and the reverse.
Show Environment, edit the SETS.BAT, even edit the BAT file
you choose to name the KITCOLOR.bat or KITMONO.BAT. If you
accidently hit an un-supported key stroke, you are shown
what key you hit and returned to menu for a proper option.
Besides the 9 user defined protocol options, and the other
options already mentioned, there are 8 more user defined
options available.
